A night at Miliyanha Campground in
Western Australia’s Pilbara

Nestled within Millstream-Chichester National Park, Miliyanha Campground offers a surprisingly comfortable base for exploring the Pilbara‘s rugged landscapes.

Arriving late afternoon, the red dust from the drive still settling, I found the campground’s setting amidst spinifex and snappy gums to be both serene and inviting.

The campground features 27 unpowered sites suitable for tents to large caravans. Facilities include no-flush pit toilets, a sheltered food preparation area with a gas barbecue, dishwashing sink, and picnic tables with benches. While untreated water may be available, it’s not guaranteed and requires treatment before consumption. Generators are permitted between 8am and 8pm in designated areas.

The proximity to Millstream Creek adds a touch of greenery, with native vegetation thriving near the water. As evening approached, the temperature cooled, and the campground settled into a peaceful stillness, highlighted by a vibrant sunset over the escarpment.

After dark, the sounds of frogs and distant wildlife created a natural symphony. The campground felt safe and well-maintained, making it an excellent base for exploring nearby attractions like Python Pool and Deep Reach.

My verdict

Miliyanha Campground provides a comfortable and well-equipped spot for those looking to experience the Pilbara‘s natural beauty without completely roughing it. The facilities are basic but sufficient, and the location offers a unique blend of outback charm and accessibility. Just remember to bring your own drinking water and be prepared for the ever-present flies.
