Located 435 kilometres southeast of Adelaide, this trail network offers an engaging blend of historical railway heritage and modern recreational facilities.
Trail Overview
The rail trail features three distinct sections, each showcasing different aspects of Mount Gambier.
The main eastern segment stretches from Telford Street to White Avenue, winding past the Mount Gambier Showgrounds and through the vibrant Railway Lands precinct. The trail then splits westward, offering two 3-kilometre branches – one following the Adelaide line to Wandilo Road, and another extending along the historic Millicent line to Cafpirco Road.
Heritage and Modern Amenities
At the heart of the rail trail lies the transformed Railway Lands, where the restored railway station hosts regular community events. The surrounding parklands incorporate preserved railway memorabilia, creating an engaging atmosphere that honours the region’s transport heritage.
