Eudunda Silo Art: Two stories become one

Eudunda, a small town in South Australia’s Mid North region, joined the Australian Silo Art Trail with the completion of its own silo mural covering the town’s six gain silos (2 sets of three), transforming it into a massive canvas visible from afar.

The mural tells a story about two children, sharing stories about their past and their culture using their two books as a way to teach each other about their history, culture and connections to the area.

The young girl in the left-hand mural carefully steps through her magical book, experiencing cattle, sheepdogs and horseback riders as they travel through a golden dust storm. The Ngadjuri child steps through his own story, inviting the child on the other silo to come and learn about his culture.

The Ngadjuri story, represented by stars and galaxies was a choice made in collaboration with local Elder, and Ngadjuri spokesperson Quentin Aegius as one single book was not enough to summarise such a huge combined history and culture.

The project aimed to boost tourism and revitalize the rural community, joining a growing network of silo art installations across Australia. These large-scale artworks celebrate local culture, history, and landscapes while attracting visitors to the region.
