Thorn-Clarke’s Cellar Door charms us again
Spring had sprung in the Barossa Valley today and what better way to celebrate than a return visit to one of our favourite cellar doors?
With perfect weather, we couldn’t resist the siren call of Thorn-Clarke’s cellar door on the outskirts of Angaston. As the spring sunshine warmed our faces, we found ourselves back at one of our favourite wine havens.
Trust me, if you haven’t been here yet, you’re missing out on a true gem!
Sipping on sunshine
As we settled into the charming tasting room, our attention was immediately drawn to the Sandpiper Pinot Gris 2023 which held promise of being a perfect pairing to this early Spring weather.
Now, I’m no wine expert, but let me tell you, this little beauty would have knocked my socks off if I had been wearing any!
The moment I took a sip, I knew we were in for a treat.
The wine danced on my tongue with light tropical flavours that transported me straight to a quiet beachside paradise. Light fruit notes mingled together in perfect harmony, creating a flavour profile that was both refreshing and indulgent.
The combination of flavours was like a tightrope walker gracefully navigating between fruitiness and acidity.

A perfect pairing
What’s a great wine without some delicious nibbles to go with it? We opted for a simple cheese platter, complete with metwurst and crackers. Let me tell you, folks, sometimes the simplest combinations are the most magical. The creamy cheese and savoury metwurst complemented the Pinot Gris perfectly, elevating both the wine and the food to new heights.
As we savoured each bite and sip, we couldn’t help but feel grateful for the casual yet informative service. The staff at Thorn-Clarke have a knack for making you feel right at home while still teaching you a thing or two about wine.
It’s like chatting with a knowledgeable friend rather than attending a stuffy wine lecture.
Before we knew it, an hour and a half had slipped by in a blur of fine wine, great company, and breathtaking surroundings. The spring sunshine seemed to make everything glow, from the rolling green hills to the smiles on our faces.
If you’re looking for a laid-back yet unforgettable wine experience in the Barossa, do yourself a favour and head to Thorn-Clarke.
Trust me, your taste buds (and your Instagram feed) will thank you!
