A visit to Chambers Rosewood Vineyards
Nestled in the heart of Rutherglen, Victoria, Chambers Rosewood Vineyards offers a captivating journey through the region’s rich winemaking heritage.
We dropped in on our way to Beechworth and as we entered the winery rows of gnarled, century-old vines greeted us, a testament to the winery’s long-standing tradition dating back to 1858.
Inside the rustic tasting room, we were immediately enveloped by the heady aromas of aged fortified wines, a warm welcome and an offer to sample their renowned Muscats and Tokays (now known as Topaque).
The tasting experience was nothing short of extraordinary. Starting with lighter styles, we progressed through a range of increasingly complex and intense wines. The Muscadelle impressed with its fresh floral notes, while the Classic Muscat showed rich raisin and toffee flavours. The crown jewel, however, was the Rare Muscat – a wine of unparalleled depth and concentration, crafted in barrels up to 100 years old.
Beyond the fortifieds, Chambers also produces excellent table wines. The Chambers Shiraz, grown in the unique Rutherglen terroir, delivered a bold, spicy character that perfectly complements the region’s hearty cuisine.
Wandering around the rooms adjoining the tasting area, we discovered the old timber vats used in the traditional fortified winemaking process and a poignant reminder of the patience and dedication required in crafting these liquid treasures.
A visit to Chambers Rosewood is more than just a wine tasting – it’s an immersion into a slice of Australian winemaking history and one that we can highly recommend. The staff were amazing and the wines, well, let me just say that we took one box with us and had another delivered.
