Ten kilometres north of Dimboola on the Dimboola-Rainbow Road lies the stunning silo art featuring Arkona local, Roley Klinge. It also highlights the importance of country tennis to these small communities, a major social event through the summer months.

Completed in 2019, this towering canvas showcases the work of renowned street artist Smug, who transformed the once-plain grain silo into a captivating mural. Smug faced the challenge of doing justice to the “unofficial Mayor of Arkona” without being able to meet and photograph Roley. Unfortunately Roley had passed away in 1991. To overcome this, Smug came up with an ingenious and original concept.

Arkona’s silo art is part of the larger Silo Art Trail, Australia’s largest outdoor gallery. This initiative has breathed new life into rural communities, attracting tourists and celebrating local culture.

Nearby silo art locations include:

1. Sheep Hills – featuring indigenous portraits by Adnate
2. Rupanyup – showcasing local youth by Julia Volchkova
3. Brim – depicting multiple generations of farmers by Guido van Helten
4. Rosebery – celebrating the region’s horse racing history by Kaff-eine
5. Lascelles – portraying local farming couple by Rone
6. Patchewollock – featuring a local farmer by Fintan Magee

These monumental artworks have transformed the Wimmera-Mallee region into an open-air gallery, inviting visitors to explore the area’s rich agricultural heritage and vibrant artistic present.
