The Barossa Valley Chocolate Company,
an essential visit for any sweet tooth

Located in Tanunda an hours drive north of Adelaide, the Barossa Valley Chocolate Company offers visitors a delightful blend of chocolate experiences and wine tasting.

The company produces a wide range of handcrafted chocolates, truffles, and other confectionery items, often incorporating local ingredients and flavours from the Barossa Valley.

Whilst I didn’t on my visit yesterday, you can spend a a relaxing hour or so enjoying a chocolate tastings, watching the chocolatiers at work through viewing windows or participate in a chocolate-making workshops. Their chocolate and wine experiences, offering wine and chocolate pairing sessions that showcase the region’s famous wines alongside their artisanal chocolates.

The venue also features a cafe serving light meals, desserts, hot chocolate and my favourite (and purpose for this particular visit), gourmet ice cream.

Getting there is relatively straightforward:

  • From Tanunda: The chocolate company is located about 2 kilometres north of the town centre, approximately 5 minutes by car.
  • From Nuriootpa: Head south on Murray Street for about 8 kilometres until you reach Tanunda, passing through two roundabouts and turn right at the third. The drive takes about 10 minutes.

For those without a car, there are a few alternatives:

  • Cycling: The Barossa Valley has excellent cycling paths, and renting a bike can be a fun way to explore the region.
  • Tours: Many local tour operators include the Barossa Valley Chocolate Company in their itineraries.
  • Taxi or ride-sharing services: These are available in the area but may need to be booked in advance.

Public transport options are limited in this rural area, so planning ahead is advisable.
