Where old shoes go to die
We all have at least one pair of shoes that are well past their ‘ Use by’ date but they linger in our closets, forgotten and down-trodden’
But no more. I have found where our old shoe can go to die. Where they can hang out with others of in a similar stage of life, be proud of their past and able to wave a shoelace at passing travellers. Perhaps they will receive a cheery wave in return.
Where is this saviour of stinky shoes you ask, this place for lost soles.
Well, there is, on the Great Ocean Road, about halfway between Tyrendarra and Tyrendarra East, near where Thompson’s Road meets the highway, a wire fence where like minded soles gather. They seem happy enough, a happy lot with their tongues hanging out in the midday sun enjoying warmth and drying out their inners.
Perhaps as you pass, if you have an old pair or two, you could tie one on to pass their days with some old runners, tennis shoes, a thong or two or even a lonely wellington. Here they can chill and be happy.
Now is the time to be kind to those who have been treated as being beneath us.
Here is the place to let them enjoy their final days in peace.
